If there’s one thing a referee should remember, it’s which game they’re officiating.
If you’re assigned to be at Michigan-Western Michigan, well, there you go. Those are the two teams playing.
On Saturday, during the Wolverines-Broncos matchup, Western Michigan called a timeout. The score was 42-0. It was the fourth quarter.
Maybe that’s why the referee wasn’t thinking clearly when he announced that Michigan State — not Western Michigan — had just called a timeout.
There’s no legitimate excuse for this. And the crowd let him hear it:
Uh, that’s not Michigan State. pic.twitter.com/x9Bn0FuTP8

Or maybe the referee was thinking it was Oct. 20 when Michigan has to travel to face Michigan State.
Who knows?
