There were some concerns about Zach Gentry leaving Michigan a year early to pursue his career in the NFL. Some draft experts believed the tight end could’ve benefitted greatly from another season in Ann Arbor.

But in his first NFL preseason game, Gentry made an immediate impact. Midway through the third quarter of Friday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Wolverine hauled in his first touchdown catch in an NFL uniform.

Gentry caught a pass from Mason Rudolph in the back of the end zone, making a leaping grab for the score:

That’s a nice statement for everyone who thought Gentry should stick around the college game for an extra season. That reception was one of his three on the night, totaling 17 yards.

Gentry was a fifth-round selection by the Steelers coming off a big year in Michigan. The tight end finished his college career with 514 yards and two touchdowns on 32 receptions.
