Will Johnson and Michigan let Fresno State hang around a bit too long Saturday night. Fortunately, Johnson was able to come up with the clutch play that should finally have this one out of reach late in the fourth quarter.
A huge favorite against the Bulldogs, Michigan’s lackluster offense in Week 1 allowed Fresno State to hang around all game long. Fresno State was even marching down the field with a chance to cut into a 23-10 lead late in the fourth.
The Wolverines allowed Fresno State to drive all the way into a 1st-and-goal scenario on a drive aided by penalties and overturned interceptions. Then, Johnson struck for an interception that would not be overturned.
Johnson jumped a route beautifully and picked off a pass in a flash before returning it 86 yards for the score. Once he grabbed the pass, it was clear no one would be able to catch him.

The offense of Michigan has some issues that will need to be addressed moving forward, but the defense once again looks like an elite unit. Johnson remains a major piece to that puzzle, and he continues to step up in clutch moments for the Wolverines.
