Zavier Simpson has been a do-it-all guard all season for Michigan. And in Saturday’s Round of 32 game against Florida, the Wolverines star was spectacular again.

Simpson finished the game with nine points, nine assists and nine rebounds. He was  a free throw, an assist and one rebound away from posting a triple-double in the NCAA Tournament, an incredible accomplishment.

Those numbers, by the way, resulted in one of the best postseason performances in Michigan history.

According to BTN Stats Guys, Simpson’s near triple-double was the first time a player has recorded at least nine points, nine rebounds and nine assists since 1987, over 30 years ago. That year, Gary Grant had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an NCAA Tournament game.

Simpson has been sensational since the start of the B1G Tournament, registering two double-doubles and dishing at least nine assists in all five of Michigan’s postseason games. He’s been incredibly entertaining to watch.

Thanks to Simpson’s big day, the Wolverines registered a 64-49 win over Florida on Saturday, reaching the Sweet Sixteen for the third time in three years.
