Michigan State has made the final cut for one of the nation’s top defensive backs in the 2023 recruiting class.

Ryan Yaites, a 4-star safety out of Denton, Texas, released the Top 4 schools he’s still considering for his commitment. Michigan State made the cut, as well as Cal, LSU and Texas Tech.

Yaites made his announcement on Twitter over the weekend:

Yaites is listed as a 6-foot-1, 175-pound safety in the 2023 recruiting class. He ranks as the No. 8 safety in the cycle and is a Top 25 talent out of Texas. Nationally, Yaites ranks No. 133, per 247Sports composite rankings.

The 4-star defensive back has received offers from 20 programs during the recruiting process. Michigan State was one of three B1G schools to extend an offer, along with Maryland and Nebraska.

During the 2021 season at Guyer High School, Yaites was responsible for 42 tackles, 8 pass break-ups and an interception. He also runs track, posting a 24.14 time in the 200-meter as a sophomore.
