Class of 2024 defensive back Jamari Howard announced Saturday that he will be de-committing from Michigan State and re-opening his recruitment.

That’s a big loss for Michigan State’s 2024 class, too. Howard was Mel Tucker’s top commit by a mile in the cycle, rated as the No. 75 prospect in the country per 247Sports.

Howard hails from Hialeah, Florida and has been committed to Michigan State since September of 2022 and had an official visit to East Lansing scheduled for June. He also has an official visit to Florida scheduled in early June.

He posted the following on Twitter Saturday morning:

Michigan State currently has just 3 commitments remaining in the Class of 2024: CB Jaylen Thompson, IOL Andrew Dennis and IOL Logan Bennett.

It’s unknown why Howard de-committed from Michigan State, but a push from his home state school Florida seems to be a likely theory. With the official visit planned for just a few weeks from now and the Gators on a massive tear on the recruiting trail, don’t be shocked if Howard is a Gator soon.
