5-star prospect Emoni Bates has announced his commitment, and he will not be going to Michigan State.

Bates has committed to the University of Memphis and picked the Tigers over MSU, the G League, and Oregon.

Bates was originally in the 2022 recruiting class but reclassified about a month ago to the class of 2021. He was originally committed to Michigan State before opening up his recruitment again in April and considered the Spartans till the end.

On his 247Sports page, the crystal balls all leaned towards him going to Memphis the last couple of weeks. The deal was then fully sealed on Tuesday evening when Sean Scherer (the MSU Insider) put one in for Bates to go to Memphis.

Bates is ranked as the top small forward in the country for this class and the 4th best recruit overall.

As for the Spartans class without Bates, they still have 3 top-60 players nationally committed and the 12th best class in the country.
