Aidan Chiles is leaving after one season with Oregon State.
Chiles entered the transfer portal when it opened on Monday, according to multiple reports. That answers a weekslong question of whether Chiles would exit Corvallis in the wake of Jonathan Smith’s move to Michigan State.
The expectation is that Chiles will follow Smith to East Lansing, according to 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman.

Chiles signed with Oregon State in the 2023 class. It was a massive recruiting win for Smith, marking the sixth-highest-rated prospect to sign with the Beavers in the internet recruiting era. The 247 Composite had him as a 4-star prospect and the No. 12 quarterback in the class.
Even with DJ Uiagalelei installed as the starter, Oregon State had a small package for Chiles throughout the season. The 6-foot-4 freshman finished with 309 yards and four touchdowns while completing 24 of his 35 passes. Chiles also had 79 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries.
Since Smith took over the MSU program, three quarterbacks have entered the transfer portal — Katin Houser, Sam Leavitt, and Noah Kim. Smith has a lengthy list of holes to fill in his first roster, but the top priority is presumably quarterback.
If Chiles does indeed move cross-country to remain under Smith’s tutelage, that would be a major move early in the process for the new Spartan head coach.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
