Michigan State and Michigan do not need added ammunition when it comes to the rivalry series, but the two teams will face each other Thursday night with a lot on the line for both teams.

Entering Thursday’s game, the Spartans find themselves in the unusual position of being on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. Tom Izzo’s squad improved their positioning with a crucial win over Indiana Tuesday but likely need another signature win to feel comfortable in regards to their tournament standing.

On the other side of things, Juwan Howard’s Wolverines need one more win to capture the regular season B1G title. After getting blown out by Illinois Tuesday, the title is still up for grabs between the Illini and Michigan. Just one win in two games against the Spartans would give Howard and company their first regular-season title since 2014.

All of that should culminate in an even more intense than normal rivalry contest in Ann Arbor. Thursday morning, Michigan State Basketball dropped a hype video for the huge contest.

Michigan holds the last win in the rivalry series from Feb. 8, 2020. That win by the Wolverines snapped a four-game winning streak in the series by the Spartans.

Can Izzo and the Spartans get some revenge and secure a trip to the NCAA Tournament? Thursday’s tipoff is set for 7 pm EST on ESPN.
