Michigan linebacker Devin Bush was the B1G’s Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-American honors from several media outlets. But one BTN analyst actually believes a rival player was the conference’s top defender.

Howard Griffith thinks Michigan State defensive lineman Kenny Willekes was actually the top player in the B1G this season. His disruptiveness and aggressiveness caused havoc for a lot of offenses all season.

The Spartans’ struggles throughout the season might have been a reason why Willekes didn’t receive more credit for his efforts.

Willekes finished the season with 20.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He was unquestionably one of the country’s top defensive lineman this fall.

“Kenny Willekes is a guy that, day-in, day-out, really caused havoc against his opponents,” Griffith said. “To me, he was a guy that, if you didn’t double-team, he would destroy your team.”

Willekes was a key cog in one of the B1G’s top defenses last fall. If he returns to East Lansing next fall, the Spartans will be in excellent shape on that side of the football.

Below, you can hear all of Griffith’s thoughts on Willekes.
