Cassius Winston thanks Spartan Nation for support following Charleston Southern game
It has been a difficult couple of weeks for Cassius Winston and the entire Winston family.
Unfortunately, the family is still dealing with the loss of Zachary. It was just over a week ago that Zachary was killed after being struck by a train in Albion, Michigan.

Remarkably, Cassius played and performed well the day after Zachary’s death. He has continued to play regularly with the Spartans since then, including during Monday night’s game against Charleston Southern.
Michigan State won big Monday with Cassius scoring 11 points with eight assists and five rebounds in the victory. After the win, he stepped to center court to address the Spartan faithful.
Winston thanked Spartan Nation for the love and support shown to him and his family throughout this difficult time:
“I really just want to say thank you all, thank all of Spartan Nation,” said Winston. “It’s been a really tough time for me and my family. All the support, all the love, all the flowers. I really appreciate it…I lost a piece of my heart, but you guys are keeping me going.”
For what he and his family have been through, this is a really classy gesture by Winston:
