Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson is a five-time NBA champion and first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee. He was an NCAA Tournament champion at Michigan State in 1979 and remains perpetually one of Michigan State’s most famous alumni and boosters.

Just a week removed from his first World Series championship as a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Johnson added “Mel Tucker Enthusiast” to his long list of accomplishments. Well known for his plain-spoken tweeting, the Magic man fired off a congratulatory message co-signed with his wife Cookie for the first year head man to revel in following the Spartans 27-24 road win over rival Michigan in Ann Arbor.

The win was indeed a big one for Tucker, who became the first and only coach since Nick Saban to beat the Wolverines in his first opportunity. The Spartans dragged home to East Lansing the Paul Bunyan rivalry trophy following the massive upset and left the Wolverines back in Ann Arbor to pick up the pieces.

The Spartans face another stiff test next Saturday, traveling to Iowa City to face an agitated 0-2 Hawkeyes team in Kinnick Stadium. Whether or not ‘Magic’ plans to fire up the Tweet Deck for that contest will not be known until sometime after noon eastern on 7th November.
