Chase Carter is moving on from East Lansing. The former Michigan State defensive end has committed with FCS Incarnate Word via the transfer portal. Carter will have four seasons of eligibility remaining with the Cardinals.

Incarnate Word, out of San Antonio, went 12-2 last season before falling to North Dakota State in the FCS semifinal. Carter appeared in one game as a true freshman for Michigan State against Akron.

Carter was a 3-star prospect in Mel Tucker’s 2022 recruiting class. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound Carter also held Division 1 basketball offers.

He joins receiver Germie Bernard and kicker Jack Stone to enter the portal from the 2022 recruiting class. Overall, the Spartans have seen 11 players depart the program. Carter is the seventh former Michigan State player to have picked another school.

The Spartans finished 5-7 last season in Tucker’s third year with the program. Michigan State went 11-2 in 2021, earning Tucker a 10-year, $95-million dollar contract extension.
