Chris Kapilovic, Michigan State assistant, weighs in on running game struggles, highlights play of freshman RB
Chris Kapilovic handles offensive line coaching duties and is the running game coordinator in East Lansing. He knows that Michigan State’s running game is not where it needs to be per Detroit Free Press’ Chris Solari.
The last three games have been evidence of problems in the running game. The Spartans were barely been able to run for 100 yards rushing as a team against Washington, Minnesota, and Maryland. Kapilovic did note that there was some progress made in the first half against Maryland, however.
“Statistically, it looks really bad,” said Kapilovic. “We haven’t been able to get any kind of rhythm or sustain things in the running game the last three weeks.”

There is one player who has been playing well despite the struggles in the running game. Elijah Collins found the end zone for one of Michigan State’s two touchdowns on Saturday. Collins finished the game with 36 yards rushing.
Kapilovic is really liking what he’s seen from Collins recently. More carries could be coming Collins’ way if he keeps this up.
“If he keeps practicing like that and playing like that, he needs to get more carries,” said Kapilovic.
