No. 7 Michigan State has a massive test Saturday as they go to Columbus to take on No. 4 Ohio State in the Shoe.

The Spartans have an excellent chance to impress the College Football Playoff committee since winning against Michigan is not good enough to be ranked ahead. If they beat Ohio State, then Michigan State is in the driver’s seat for the B1G East crown.

The GameDay crew talked about how the Spartans could pull off the upsets against the Buckeyes.

“I think Mel Tucker’s experience at Ohio State can be a factor, said Kirk Herbstreit. “He was part of the staff in 2002 when this team won a national championship. He knows what this stadium can be like, how intimidating it can be. So, he’s instructing his team to have a backyard brawl type mentality coming in. Let’s not throw havoc to the wind, let’s impose our will on Ohio State. That’s the mindset in that locker room, us against the world mentality.”

Desmond Howard and David Pollack talked about Michigan State’s red zone defense.

“I think, what they’re going to have to do, is tighten up in the red zone,” said Howard. “Michigan State’s defense is 7th in the FBS in red zone defense. To me, that’s outstanding. If they’re able to hold Ohio State to field goals today, I think they can pull off the upset.”

Pollack commented that Ohio State struggled against Penn State and Nebraska in the red zone.

Michigan State will try and pull the upset in the Shoe today and try to take control of the B1G East.
