Mark Dantonio got a commitment in typical Mark Dantonio fashion.

With the college football world buzzing about the renewal of the Michigan-Notre Dame rivalry, a four-star tight end from Cincinnati turned down the likes of Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State and gave his pledge to Michigan State.

Matt Dotson, the No. 9 tight end in the country, made the announcement via Bleacher Report:

Dotson is a significant get for a program on the rise in the recruiting ranks. If he signs, he’ll be the first four-star tight end to play for Dantonio at MSU.

The 6-5, 235-pound recruit is also the highest-rated 2017 tight end to commit to a B1G school.

MSU actually already had a commitment from IMG Academy tight end Jack Camper. But Dotson became the second-highest rated recruit in MSU’s 2017 class.

The Spartans are already coming off of their best recruiting class of the Dantonio era in 2016. The 2017 group currently sits at No. 21 overall and No. 7 in the B1G in 247sports’ class rankings.
