Emoni Bates – a former top hoops prospect and Michigan State commit – is reportedly in some legal trouble. According to reports, Bates was arrested over the weekend.

WXYZ 7 in Detroit reported that Bates was arrested by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office following a Sunday evening traffic stop. Bates was originally pulled over after failing to stop at an intersection.

During the stop, officers reportedly found a firearm before taking Bates into custody. Bates is facing a pair of felonies following the incident.

During the investigation, the sheriff’s office said a firearm was discovered and Bates was taken into custody.

Court records show he is charged with two felonies – one for carrying a concealed weapons and one for altering ID marks on a weapon.

Bates spent his first season of college basketball at Memphis but battled injuries during the season. He transferred to Eastern Michigan this offseason, a return home of sorts for the Ypsilanti product.
