Kenneth Walker III had an incredible year at Michigan State. Now with the NFL Draft coming up, some people believe he could be one of the 1st running backs taken, including ESPN’s Todd McShay.

Walker III was 2nd in the nation in rushing yards with 1,636 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns. Along with that, he also brought home the Walter Camp and Doak Walker Awards as well.

It seems like most people either have Iowa State’s Breece Hall or Walker being the 1st RB taken. Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN has Hall being taken over Walker in one of his more recent 2022 NFL Mock Drafts.

However, McShay believes Walker will stand out when it comes time to draft per Matt Wenzel of Mlive.com.

“When I started really studying his tape, putting on the coach copy tape, he plays at a different speed,” said McShay. “From the moment the ball is in his hand, it’s electric, he just explodes off the snap. He’s not the biggest back but he lowers his shoulder, he’s going to drive for extra yards. He’s sudden, everything he does is snap.”

McShay also stated that Walker may have more of what it takes to translate his skills to the NFL.
“You compare him to Breece Hall, who is more of that patient runner who builds up speed, phenomenal workout numbers,” said McShay. “I know everyone is talking about Hall late in the first, I don’t see it as much as I see it with Walker in terms of what translates to the NFL. I’ll be interested to see how it plays out and maybe Breece Hall goes before him.”
We’ll have to wait until the 2022 NFL Draft to see how it all plays out.
