Former Michigan State defensive end Chris Mayfield has announced his transfer destination.
Wednesday, Mayfield announced on Twitter that he will be transferring to Ohio University to continue his college football career. He’s one of multiple Spartans to enter the NCAA transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2020 season.
“I am very grateful for all the friends and memories I made at Michigan State, also to be able to learn under a great coaching staff,” Mayfield wrote. “But after entering the transfer portal and finding out what school is best for me I have decided to commit to Ohio University. GO BOBCATS.”

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive lineman spent just one season at Michigan State. He did not appear in any games, but was named the Scout Team Co-Defensive Player of the Week before the Spartans’ upset victory over No. 8 Northwestern.
Mayfield was a 3-star member of Michigan State’s 2020 recruiting class. The Hilliard, Ohio native was ranked as one of the Top 50 players from his state and was the No. 61 defensive end of the cycle.
