Ex-Michigan State guard enters transfer portal for second time in two years
For the second time in two years, Rocket Watts has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
247Sports reported that Watts, who spent last season with Mississippi State, has entered his name into the portal and will start exploring new opportunities. He transferred out of Michigan State after spending two years on Tom Izzo’s squad.
During his lone year in Starkville, Watts played in 19 games and averaged 4.4 points per game. It was the worst statistical season of his college career, though he did battle a hip injury throughout the course of the year.
In the previous two years at Michigan State, Watts played in 55 games with 31 starts. He averaged 8.4 points, 2.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game over that two-year window with the Spartans.
The best season for the guard came in 2019-20, when he posted 9 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. He posted a career-best 2.7 assists per game during the 2020-21 campaign in East Lansing.
Watts will still have two years of eligibility to use at his next destination.
As a high school prospect, Watts ranked as a 4-star recruit and was listed as the No. 39 overall player of the 2019 class. The Ohio native was ranked among the Top 10 combo guards, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
