An ex-Michigan State football player has been sentenced to several years in prison after admitting to raping a woman last year in an off-campus incident, according to reports.

The Lansing State Journal reports that Auston Robertson was sentenced Wednesday by an Ingham County Circuit Court judge to serve 43 months to 10 years in prison for assault with intent to commit criminal sexual penetration. He will also have to register as a sex offender.

Robertson has credit for serving 247 days.

According to the report, Robertson pleaded guilty to the charges in November. He admitted to assaulting another Michigan State student in her apartment last year. His confession was part of the plea deal.

The victim testified that Robertson walked to her second-floor apartment, followed her into her bedroom and forced himself on her. The victim notified her boyfriend, a teammate of Robertson’s at the time. The boyfriend notified his coach and the allegations were reported to police.

Robertson was dismissed from the team following the charges.
