C.J. Hayes is off to the ACC to use his extra year of college football.

The Michigan State transfer announced his commitment to Syracuse on Thursday.

Hayes spent 5 seasons at Michigan State, but only saw the field in 3 seasons (2018, ’19, ’21). Hayes redshirted in 2017. In 2018, he played in 6 games, recording a 13-yard reception. The following season, 2019, was Hayes’ most productive. He played in 11 games, making 13 catches for 141 yards. Hayes did not play in any 2020 games due to an injury, per his MSU bio.

Hayes graduated from Michigan State in December 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in communication. For the 2021 season, he was listed as a safety on the Spartan roster. He played in 6 games, not recording any statistics. Though Hayes is 5 seasons removed from high school and has used a redshirt, the NCAA’s blanket waiver for the 2020 season allows him an extra season.
