A former Spartan has decided to step away from football, announcing on social media Monday evening that he is hanging it up.

Marcel Lewis was a linebacker out of Clinton Township, Michigan who joined Michigan State via the 2019 recruiting class. He was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school.

During the 2020 season, Lewis made the decision to enter the transfer portal and examine his options. He eventually transferred to Central Michigan, but his playing days are now over.

“There (have) been questions on my football status that I need to clear up,” wrote Lewis on Twitter. “I want to thank every coach that has reached out to me during this time. But my football career has come to an end…

“I appreciate football and what it has done for me and my family. I have set goals and expectations out of myself that I will achieve outside of playing football.”

Best of luck to Lewis in whatever endeavors he takes on next.
