Another one of Mel Tucker’s staff members at Colorado has decided to follow the head coach to East Lansing.
Travares Tillman, who was previously the defensive backs coach at Colorado, will be a senior defensive assistant at Michigan State. He recently changed the information on his Twitter page to confirm the move.
New Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell did not retain Tillman, forcing Tillman to find a new staff to join. He’s one of a handful of Tucker’s assistants who followed him from Boulder to East Lansing.
Before spending one season at Colorado as an assistant coach, Tillman was a graduate assistant at Georgia for three years. Prior to that, he was the defensive backs coach and head track coach at Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia.
Tillman was a safety at Georgia Tech from 1996-99 and was a second-round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. He played eight seasons in the league, making stops with the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins. Tillman ended his NFL career with 158 tackles, 12 passes defended and four interceptions in 74 career games.
