Former Michigan State DL coach lands new gig with MAC program
Longtime Michigan State defensive line and defensive tackles coach Ron Burton has landed a new job.
On Monday, Miami (OH) officially named Burton the next defensive line coach for the program. It will be his second stop in the MAC, previously working with linebackers at Eastern Michigan from 1995-96.
Burton had been on the Michigan State staff from 2013-21, working under both Mark Dantonio and Mel Tucker. Following the Spartans’ Peach Bowl victory over Pitt to cap off a 11-2 season in 2021, Burton announced he was stepping down at MSU.

Burton has been coaching for three decades, dating back to when he was a graduate assistant at North Carolina, his alma mater, from 1992-93. He has also had stops at Morehead State, Indiana, Grand Valley State and Air Force.
Miami ended the 2021 season with a 7-6 record which included a 5-3 mark against MAC foes. The RedHawks will have a tough start to the 2022 campaign, opening the year with Kentucky before having other Power 5 clashes against Cincinnati and Northwestern.
