Former Spartans linebacker Andrew Dowell has officially made the New Orleans Saints after surviving the final round of cuts.

Nick Underhill first put out the tweet confirming the news on Tuesday.

Dowell played for Michigan State from 2015-2018 and was one of the Spartans best players on defense. His best season came during his senior year when he finished with 97 total tackles (41 solo) with 3.5 sacks. He also had 9 passes defended and 1 forced fumble as well.

Before that 2018 season, his best season came in 2017 when he finished with 75 total tackles (30 solo) with 1.5 sacks and 4 passes defended. For his career, he finished with 261 total tackles (103 solo) with 6 sacks, 1 interception, and 16 passes defended.

It’s not known whether Dowell will start for the Saints this season, but he’ll be on the team when the Saints open their 2021 campaign against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 12. Kickoff will be at 4:25 p.m. ET and it’ll be televised by FOX.
