Former MSU football player, ‘The Godfather’ actor James Caan passes away at 82

Michigan State lost a very memorable alumni on Wednesday evening. The family of actor James Caan announced that he had passed away from his social media account.

Caan attended Michigan State for 2 years during the late 1950s, playing QB on the football team. However, he later transferred to Hofstra University to pursue acting. Caan was known for his role as Sonny Corleone in ‘The Godfather’ movies. He passed away at the age of 82.

Here’s what his family had to say about his passing from his Twitter account:

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6,” Caan’s family stated. “The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
