In addition to the number of assistant coaches Mel Tucker has added to the staff since being name the head coach at Michigan State, the program has also announced some additional hirings in more administrative roles. One of the new additions is former Spartan player Darien Harris.

Friday, Michigan State announced the hiring of three additional staff members. Geoff Martzen will be the director of player personnel, a role he was in last season at Colorado under Tucker. Cody Cox will retain his title as director of football operations, a post he’s held for the past three years.

Harris, a former linebacker at Michigan State, will take on the role as director of player engagement. He was a member of the Spartans’ football teams from 2012-15.

The news of the three additional hires on the administrative side of the program came just a few minutes after Michigan State revealed it had swiped Ted Gilmore away from Wisconsin to be the tight ends coach in East Lansing. Gilmore had been the wide receivers coach with the Badgers since 2015.

It took a little time, but Tucker’s Michigan State staff is coming together quite nicely as the program prepares for spring practice.
