Mel Tucker has added another former SEC defensive player to the Michigan State roster thanks to the transfer portal.

Tuesday, the Spartans received a commitment from former Alabama defensive back Ronald Williams, who spent one season with the Crimson Tide before transferring out. He’s the second SEC player to commit to Tucker and Michigan State, along with ex-Tennessee starting linebacker Quavaris Crouch.

Crouch announced his commitment to Michigan State in late April. Both bring much-needed depth and talent to the defensive side of the football in East Lansing.

Williams was a 4-star junior college prospect, ranked as the No. 12 player coming out of those ranks in the 2020 class. He was an NJCAA All-American following his sophomore season at Hutchinson Community College after recording 31 tackles, 5 pass break-ups and 3 interceptions in 2019.

According to his player bio on RollTide.com, Williams appeared in three games for Alabama during the 2020 season. He played against Mississippi State, Kentucky and Arkansas and was responsible for a tackle during the Crimson Tide’s national championship run.

Williams joins a Michigan State team that finished 2-5 a season ago. The Spartans are entering the second year under Tucker.
