Huge gain to TE Trenton Gillison sets up short TD for Michigan State in Pinstripe Bowl
Trenton Gillison came up with a big gain on this play!
The redshirt freshman is seeing action in the Pinstripe Bowl as starting tight end Matt Seybert is out with an injury. Gillison, a former four-star recruit, is listed at 6-foot-5 and 220 lbs., and he showed off his nice mix of size and speed with this key play.
It came on a simple go route running down the seam. Wake Forest’s defense left him uncovered running down the middle of the field, and Brian Lewerke hit him in stride with a throw.

The catch went for 64 yards, more than Gillison’s season total coming into the game:

Brian Lewerke punched in a short touchdown run soon after. However, the Demon Deacons responded with a touchdown of their own to make it 21-17, Wake Forest, in the second quarter.
Gillison may be a young player, but it definitely looks like he has the physical tools to be a solid contributor at the TE position. Hopefully, he takes another step forward in 2020.
