Jay Johnson may have revealed what Michigan State’s plans for its plethora of running backs are. The news came out when he spoke to the media on Thursday per Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press.

The additions of transfer RBs Jalen Berger and Jarek Broussard could be useful to the Spartans. Johnson hinted at a potential backfield by committee in 2022. This would be much different than last year’s philosophy with Kenneth Walker III.

Other than that, Johnson also updated everyone on what the RB battle is looking like. Berger and Broussard seem to be the frontrunners, with Jordan Simmons also starting to impress the coaches so far.

“Jalen Berger continues to process,” said Johnson. “Jarek Broussard is getting back in the groove a little bit. Jordan Simmons is also doing some good things.”

Michigan State could be taking a much different to approach when it comes to its backfield this fall.
