Jonathan Smith lands first commitment of MSU tenure from RB out of Texas
Jonathan Smith has his first high school commitment for his tenure at Michigan State. The decision comes from a player his staff previously recruited to Oregon State.
The player is Makhi Frazier, a 3-star running back out of McKinney (TX) High School. He originally committed to the Beavers in May but reopened his recruitment once Smith departed for East Lansing.
Now, Frazier is committed to the Spartans with Smith and RBs coach Keith Bhonapha in East Lansing:

Frazier is listed at 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds as a 3-star running back. The 247 Sports Composite rates Frazier as the 117th RB in the country for the class of 2024.
Prior to Frazier’s pledge, Michigan State held just 7 current commitments. There is plenty of work to be done ahead of the Early Signing Period, and Smith’s staff is likely to also hit the transfer portal hard this offseason.
One piece reported to be leaning toward the Spartans is QB Aidan Chiles. Chiles is a former 4-star recruit that served as Smith’s backup QB during the 2023 season.
