The Spartans returned a number of key defenders from last season, including a particularly stout defensive line and linebacker corps. It was expected that the unit will be the backbone of the team once again and proved to be the case Friday night. However, that made the prediction of one Tulsa running back even more ludicrous.

Leading up to the season opener, Corey Taylor II felt that a reasonable goal for Tulsa’s offense was 200 yards rushing against the Spartans. According to his breakdown, that would be 100 yards apiece for himself and teammate Shamari Brooks with about five yards per carry.

Needless to say, that is not exactly what happened for the Golden Hurricanes duo. Their actual total? The two backs combined for 13 carries and -1 yard against the Spartans. That’s not all. Tulsa as a team rushed for -73 yards Friday night.
