Mel Tucker couldn’t make the deal sweet enough to bring Kentucky assistant Vince Marrow to Michigan State.

On Friday, Marrow tweeted out that he will be staying in Lexington. His decision came after hearing pitches from both Kentucky and Michigan State over the last two days. Marrow was Tucker’s first target of assistant coaches since taking the head coaching job in East Lansing.

“I’m staying home! Thank you for all the love and support,” Marrow wrote on Twitter. “Wow! You people are crazy.”

Marrow is known to be an excellent recruiter, especially in the Midwest. Michigan State was reportedly willing to offer him a nice increase in pay if he joined the Spartans staff, but Kentucky was willing to match. After some back-and-forth between the two schools and Marrow, he eventually settled on staying in Lexington.

Tucker has decided to part ways with members of Mark Dantonio’s, meaning he’ll have to work quickly to land his new staff, especially with spring football right around the corner.

Marrow has been a member of Kentucky’s staff since 2012.
