Michigan State’s offensive line might be getting some major help.

The Spartans struggled up front in the Week 1 win over Utah State, as running lanes collapsed quickly and Brian Lewerke found himself scrambling frequently. Part of the reason was because 16-game start Cole Chewins was out of the lineup.

But Chewins might be back in action soon for Michigan State, a huge addition if he’s available this week against Arizona State.

At his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Mark Dantonio said that Chewins was practicing again this week and preparing for the upcoming contest against the Sun Devils.

“I don’t like to talk about injuries, but [Cole Chewins] is back practicing,” Dantonio said. “So we’ll just leave it at that.”

Chewins had started in the last 16 games for the Spartans on the front line and had become one of the anchors for the group. His absence was noticeable as MSU struggled to keep the Utah State defensive line at bay.
