La’Darius Jefferson confirmed Tuesday evening that he will be transferring from Michigan State, but he took the time to thank head coach Mark Dantonio.

Jefferson, a sophomore running back, wrote that he was thankful for Dantonio and the entire Michigan State football program. Unfortunately, he also confirmed he’s entering the transfer portal for a “new chapter in life and many more opportunities.”

Jefferson arrived as a member of the 2018 recruiting class, but he never quite found a consistent groove. He rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games as a freshman. However, he has carried the ball just 19 times for 25 yards in six games this year.

Here’s his post from Twitter:

Jefferson, Connor Heyward, and Elijah Collins all entered the year in a packed running back group with the Spartans looking for a new workhorse to replace LJ Scott. Collins has since grabbed that role, carrying the ball 90 times for 476 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Heyward and now Jefferson have hit the transfer portal as their carries – and general effectiveness – has been reduced in 2019.
