Michigan State’s 2022 recruiting class only has two pledges, but it’s already loaded with talent.
On Tuesday, the Spartans landed a verbal pledge from 5-star center Enoch Boakye out of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He becomes the second 5-star player to commit to Michigan State in the 2022 recruiting cycle, joining Emoni Bates, who is listed as the top overall player in that class.
247Sports was one of several outlets to report the news.
With two 5-star players now committed in the 2022 class, Michigan State now owns the No. 1 ranking in the cycle. Both players are also ranked inside the top 20 overall players for their class.
Per 247Sports, Boakye is a 6-foot-10, 240-pound center who is listed as the No. 3 player at his position and the top prospect out of Ontario. He’s also the No. 18 overall player in the class, regardless of position.
Michigan State beat Gonzaga and Texas Tech for Boakye’s pledge.
Josh Gershon of 247Sports evaluated Boakye and what he brings to the floor:
Talented enter with an extremely high upside. Impressive frame with wide shoulders and long arms to go with pretty good hands for a young post. Has legitimate body control and ball skills for the position; can grab rebound and start break. Plus athlete and force around the basket due to sheer size and motor.
Michigan State now has three total 5-star players committed in the 2021 and 2022 recruiting class combined.
