Washington State quarterback Luke Falk was going to try and give it a go, but an injured wrist won’t allow the prolific gunslinger to get on the field for the Holiday Bowl.

Falk had been questionable for the game and it was believed that he might make an appearance for the Cougars, despite the injury. But FOX announced just prior to kickoff that he would be a late scratch. Tyler Hilinski will be under center against Michigan State.

Falk was one of the top quarterbacks in the nation this year, throwing for 3,593 yards and 30 touchdowns in 12 games. He also completed passes at a 67 percent clips for the season.

Though Falk’s absence is a huge blow for Washington State, it’s hardly ushering a new face under center. Hilinski has played in seven games this year and has thrown for over 900 yards with a 70.5 completion rate. He also has five touchdown passes and six interceptions this season.
