Maliq Carr, MSU starting TE, reportedly reaches decision on transfer portal
Maliq Carr has spent 3 seasons in the Michigan State program and served in a starring role during the 2023 campaign. He was a starting tight end for the Spartans and will reportedly test the transfer portal coming out of 2023.
According to Chris Solari with the Detroit Free Press, a program spokesperson confirmed Carr’s intent to enter the portal. Carr originally signed with Purdue in the 2020 recruiting class but transferred to Michigan State for the 2021 season.

During the 2023 season, Carr was the team’s second-leading receiver to Montorie Foster with 30 catches for 352 yards. Carr tied for the team lead with 3 receiving touchdowns.
Ovall, Carr has 54 catches for 696 yards and 5 touchdowns during his time in East Lansing. The 6-foot-6 and 260-pound TE also played for Tom Izzo’s Spartan basketball team in the 2022 spring semester before finally focusing solely on football.
Carr is the latest in a slew of Spartans to hit the transfer portal. Part of that is to be expected with a coaching change, but the star TE should have a number of suitors in the portal.
