Mark Dantonio addresses players left off travel roster for trip to Penn State
Michigan State was shorthanded for the trip to Happy Valley, but that didn’t stop the Spartans from taking down Penn State.
Brian Lewerke and Felton Davis III came up big in the win and provided a game-winning touchdown with 19 seconds left. The win is a big boost for Michigan State as the team now turns its attention to a rivalry matchup with Michigan.
It’s no secret that the Spartans are dealing with a number of injuries, and it appears injuries were the main reason for the players that were left off the travel roster. Chris Solari with the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday that RB LJ Scott, WR Darrell Stewart Jr., CB Josiah Scott, OL David Beedle, and OL Kevin Jarvis were among those that stayed home for the Penn State game.
The most interesting name from that list was LJ Scott. Scott has suited up and been listed as a game-time decision in a few games since his initial injury. However, he did not travel or suit up for the game with the Nittany Lions.
Though Mark Dantonio did not update the injury status of Scott on his Sunday teleconference, he did address the players left off the travel roster. He indicated there were no discipline problems related to the players left behind, which seems to imply injuries were the sole reason for those who did not make the trip:
Dantonio on travel roster/leaving guys at home: "Really, I think the number was 8 we did not bring." MSU brought 74. "There are no discipline problems, there are no issues."

Hopefully Scott, and others, can get healthy in a hurry for the Spartans.
