Michigan State’s running back situation could’ve potentially taken another hit over the weekend, but head coach Mark Dantonio has given the “all clear” on Elijah Collins following Saturday’s game against Northwestern.

Collins briefly left Michigan State’s game against Northwestern, later returning to the sideline in uniform. According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, Dantonio said Collins had an X-ray done on an unspecified potential injury, but the running back is “fine.”

Dantonio said it was a precautionary measure taken by the Michigan State staff. Collins had 76 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries for the Spartans in a 31-10 victory over the weekend. He also had one catch for nine yards.

“He was back by the end of the game,” Dantonio said. “We took him out for precautionary (reasons) just to get a quick X-ray, but he’s fine.”

Collins has been the top back for Michigan State this season, piling up 357 yards and two touchdowns on 61 carries through four games. He’s also caught three passes for 18 yards.

Michigan State is now 3-1 on the season following the win over Northwestern with a 1-0 mark in B1G play. The Spartans will now return to East Lansing to take on a 3-1 Indiana team on Saturday.
