Michigan State may not have been playing for a B1G East title on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing, but the Spartans did need a win in order to get to bowl eligibility. They also needed that victory if they wanted a nice, new baseball cap.

After the game, Michigan State’s players received a green baseball hat that read “program win” on the back and sported the Spartan head logo on the front. Mark Dantonio said he wanted to reward his players with something to symbolize the significance of getting to 6-6 and becoming bowl eligible.

According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, the hats cost about $4 each.

Michigan State registered a 19-16 victory over Maryland on Saturday, getting that all-important sixth win to become bowl eligible. The Spartans are now on a two-game winning streak, defeating Rutgers and Maryland in back-to-back weeks.

Coming into the 2019 season, many expected the Spartans to compete for a B1G title or hit double-digits in the win column. The team fell well short of that goal, but will still be making a postseason appearance this year.

And they’ve got the hats to prove it.
