Mark Dantonio officially enters Spartan Stadium's Ring of Honor
Mark Dantonio coached the Michigan State Spartans from 2007-2019. During that time, the Spartans had some of their best seasons in program history.
In Week 5, Dantonio was formally entered into Spartan Stadium’s Ring of Honor for his contributions to the program. Dantonio is the 14th name to be added to the Ring of Honor.

The legendary coach is the winningest in Michigan State history. Dantonio compiled a 114-57 record at the helm in East Lansing and won 3 Big Ten titles during his tenure. Dantonio also won 2 Big Ten Coach of the Year Awards and won 6 bowl games.
This marks a year of accomplishments for the retired coach. Back in January, Dantonio was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame 2024 Class, which featured 19 players and 3 coaches.
Since Dantonio’s retirement in 2020, the Spartans have failed to replicate the success of his tenure.
Mel Tucker took over for Dantonio and led the team to an 11-win season and a Peach Bowl win in 2021. However, regression and off-the-field scandals ruined Tucker’s tenure and the Spartans finished with a 4-8 record in 2023.
Now, the team is hoping to get back to its winning ways with Jonathan Smith at the helm. The Spartans were 3-1 and 1-0 in the conference heading into Week 5.
In the 4th quarter, the Spartans are facing a huge deficit against Ohio State. Currently, the Spartans trail 38-7 with just over 12 minutes to play. The next test for the Spartans will be in Week 6 against No. 8 Oregon.
