It helps having multiple quarterbacks be able to produce if you’re a football team.
Just ask the Philadelphia Eagles. Thanks to Carson Wentz, the team got out to a hot start and the Eagles were able to ride his success a long way in the regular season. Once Wentz went down, however, Nick Foles took over and did what he had to do to help the team win a Super Bowl.
Not all teams have that luxury. And it’s not all about talent, either. It’s about getting along and supporting one another.
At Michigan State, QB Brian Lewerke has been the main signal caller for the last year and a half. He’s the Spartans’ guy. But backup QB Rocky Lombardi has to be ready in case anything were to happen to Lewerke.
That was the case this past weekend against Purdue. Lombardi stepped in as the starter and went 26-of-46 for 318 yards and 2 TD in the 23-13 win. It was perfect if you were a Spartans fan.
How are the 2 QBs themselves handling the situation, though? Is there any jealousy? Is there a QB competition now?
On Sunday, during coach Mark Dantonio’s teleconference, he said there weren’t any issues:
Dantonio on Lewerke's role with Lombardi: "They're all in it together. There's no animosity" between the QBs. Says Lewerke took snaps during practice but was supportive of Lombardi. Calls the QB room "very, very positive."

Again, if you’re a Spartans fan, this is awesome to hear.
More from Dantonio’s teleconference:
Dantonio on the call. "A big win for our team yesterday. Our crowd was outstanding. Excellent momentum and excitement and enthusiasm within our team."

Dantonio says no turnovers and controlling the clock were key, thought pass protection was solid and Lombardi spread the ball around "and threw with authority."

Dantonio: "I thought 12, Rocky Lombardi, played pretty well and brought us forward." Says "you don't know what November is gonna bring us."

Dantonio: "If we get to 4-4, you're off the charts a little bit." Says 5-3 gives MSU some chances for getting to 10 wins. Says he saw a lot of upsets around the country last night. "There's a lot of things that can happen down the road."

Dantonio: "When you play well, good things happen and people take notice."

Dantonio on Lombardi: "He played with confidence and aggressively."
