The 2018 season is over for Michigan State punter Jake Hartbarger.

Head coach Mark Dantonio confirmed at his weekly press conference that Hartbarger’s injury would cost him the remainder of the season. The punter was injured in the Spartans’ Week 2 game against Arizona State.

According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, Hartbarger is expected to seek a medical redshirt, which would allow him to return for a sixth season.

Tyler Hunt has filled in on punting duties for the past two weeks. Against Indiana, he shared punting responsibilities with walk-on Bryce Baringer.

An Arizona State defender collided with Hartbarger’s right leg during the Sept. 8 clash. He was expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, but Dantonio does not anticipate the punter returning this fall.

Hartbarger redshirted as a true freshman in 2014.
