Michigan State’s quarterback situation for the Redbox Bowl was in limbo, but head coach Mark Dantonio provided some clarity during his press conference.

Brian Lewerke will be the starter for the Spartans in the Monday matchup against Oregon. From the midpoint of the season, Lewerke has battled a shoulder injury which has kept his status up in the air for several games.

Backup quarterback Rocky Lombardi has rotated in under center periodically.

Lewerke played in 10 games for the Spartans this season, throwing for 1,868 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He also completed passes at a 54 percent clip and threw 10 interceptions.

Lombardi threw for 738 yards and three touchdowns on the year.

Michigan State finished the year 7-5 and is hoping to get to the eight-win mark on the year.

The Spartans and Ducks have played six times and the all-time series is knotted at 3-3. The two teams play in the Redbox Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
