Michigan State has known it will compete in the Maui Invitational this season for quite some time now, but the Spartans learned who they’ll face in Round 1 on Thursday.

The Maui Invitational bracket was unveiled on Thursday, revealing that Michigan State will take on Virginia Tech in the first round of the tournament. Depending on outcome, the Spartans would then play either Georgia or Dayton in the following round.

On the other side of the bracket, Kansas will play Chaminade and BYU will take on UCLA.

Heading into the season, with so much hype surrounding Michigan State and Kansas, the early expectation would be to see the Spartans and Jayhawks battling in the championship game. Both will likely be top 10 teams at that point in the season.

The Maui Invitational will take place Nov. 25 through Nov. 27. This year marks the fourth time the Spartans have played in the tournament, with the lone championship coming in 1991.
