Mel Tucker has finally revealed who will be Michigan State’s starting quarterback for the opener.
Per Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, Tucker told a local pregame radio show that Payton Thorne will be the starter for Friday night’s game against Northwestern. Temple transfer Anthony Russo was also battling for the starting job.
Tucker had been hesitant to reveal the starting quarterback throughout fall camp leading up to the game. He also did not provide a depth chart for the showdown against the Wildcats.

It’s unclear whether or not MSU will use a multi-quarterback system against Northwestern.
