Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker thinks the performance from the No. 15 team in the nation was ‘unacceptable’ against Western Michigan Friday.
The Spartans won 35-13, but that’s not good enough for Tucker. Winning a B1G championship at the end of the season takes more than a 22-point victory in a heavily favored contest and missed opportunities galore.

He explained that those aforementioned missed opportunities held the Spartans back. Maybe it was just shaking off the rust, but Tucker feels the Spartans weren’t even close to their true selves Friday evening.
Tucker: “We just can’t allow ourselves to leave anything on the table. We have some unrealized potential we need to get out and get productivity immediately.”

Tucker is searching for his first B1G championship berth since taking over for Michigan State in 2020. The Spartans are looking to get back to the top of the conference for the first time since 2015.
