The Michigan State-Maryland game was officially canceled earlier today due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

After it was canceled, MSU head coach Mel Tucker released a statement on the cancellation via Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press:

Obviously, players and coaches will be a bit upset deep down about not getting the chance to play but the health and safety of everyone involved with the game remains the biggest priority.

The game will not be rescheduled so they won’t be able to play a whole season, unlike some other Big Ten schools. Maryland also had their game against Ohio State from last week canceled and it won’t be made up either.

Next up for Michigan State is a date with Northwestern on Nov. 28. For Maryland, they’ll get a crack at beating No. 9 Indiana on the same day.
